This n That

We leave in a week's time so we did our last grocery store run yesterday at Bodega and noticed how much fresher the produce was from usual. Did the produce truck just come in or is the new Soriana's, with their very nice produce, giving them a run for their money? Whatever the reason, we're happy for it. And Sr B found spinach there. He was a happy man!

Neighbours Liz and Marty go away for 3 or 4 months during the winter. They returned late Sunday night so, last night we spent the evening together, enjoying their photos while they regaled us with tales of their stay in Puerto Escondido.

Today, the handyman that most of us use came and took our hot water heater to service it. We haven't had any problems with it but we felt it was time to have that done. An ounce of  prevention kind of deal. He took it this morning, saying he would bring it back either this afternoon or tonight, depending on how much build up he had to clean out. It's still not back. So no hot water until then.

Sochi, our fabulous massage gal, came this morning. Her routine includes telling us to relax when we get on the table.  Well, Sr B took her at her word and fell asleep. Sochi and I shared a couple of giggles at his expense when his snoring got particularly loud.

Today was another hot one, 38C in the shade according to our thermometer, so Sr B and I went down to the pool in the afternoon and visited with all who were there. Many of the residents and renters have already gone home so it's a lot quieter down there now.

The body of the young man who fell off the pier the other day was found. So, so sad but at least his family can have closure.

I have my next dentist appointment tomorrow. I have a kink in my neck which might affect the freezing.  According to my dentist at home, I'm part of a small group of people who have an extra nerve for the lower jaw. Everyone has one that runs along the temple but a few of us also have one that runs from the neck. It's a major reason why I need extra freezing. In the past, a kink in my neck has completely blocked the freezing, so I'm a little concerned about tomorrow. I guess I'll just have to see what happens.

Orquesta Sinfonica de Yucatan - Part Deux

The symphony came to Progreso tonight so a bunch of us went down to see it. It was held at Iglesia de la Purisma Concepcion y San Jose church beside the main square and, like so many events in Yucatan, it was free to attend.

It was just as fantastic as it was the other day. They played different music that I actually enjoyed more. Considering I know next to zip about classical music, this surprised me. Most of it sounds the same to me. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy it on occasion, though.

The last song on the program was a piece called Solamente una vez, written by Agustin Lara from Tlacotalpan, Mexico. The conductor, Mtro. Luis Luna Guarneros sang while the orchestra played without his guidance. My goodness. Dude can sing! Part way through, he invited the audience to join him so I'm guessing it's a well known song.

For the encore, they played a fun, toe-tapping song with a definite Latin tone. The conductor invited us to clap our hands so we did. How can you not when it's such lively music?

In unrelated news, we had our massage gal in this morning. Soooooo wonderful. We close the front door for privacy when she's here, so there's not much air flow. Unfortunately, the power went off which meant the fan stopped. Poor Sachi was starting to sweat. But luckily it wasn't out for too long so she was able to cool off some.

We've had a massive amount of snow back home, so my readers from there won't be too happy when I say it was hotter than Blue Blazes today. The local online weather site said it was 37C and that it's to be the same tomorrow. My kind of weather!

The Girl With the Magic Fingers

Meet Sochi, the girl with the magic fingers. She's amazing.

She has a fold up table that she hauls over on a hand truck. I have no idea how far from the complex she lives but I think it must be a bit of a walk because she looks a bit tuckered when she gets here.

Senor B and I had booked her for 10am today. We've had her come a few times and she's always prompt. Today was no exception. A big "Hello, it's nice to see you again," accompanied her warm, wide smile.

Her table is almost as big as she is so we help her pull it out of the bag and get set up. Then it's down to business.

She uses a nice glide-y lotion, a metal ball with small spikes and few other gadgets that I saw but didn't take note of what they were. She uses the ball on the bottom of the feet. Eek! It made my feet twitch and I was afraid I was going to kick her!

I get a monthly massage at home so I'm used to them but she went deeper than my guy at home. There were a couple times I winced. She gave my frozen shoulder a good going over. I'm sure I'm going to hurt tomorrow.

I have a bug bite on the back of my right arm that has become very swollen. The red area is a good 4 inches in diameter. Because it's so big, she was concerned that it was a cockroach bite. Say what?! Cockroaches bite? omg. I got it during the night, along with 3 or 4 more, so I'm pretty sure it's just a mosquito bite.

A full body massage takes just over an hour and she charges 250 pesos. Much cheaper than my guy at home and every bit as good. She also has clients in Merida. I left all my business cards back in Canada but if anyone is interested, I can get her contact info. She doesn't speak a lot of English but with the help of my handy-dandy dictionary, we managed.
