Oh, The Noise!

I've learned to tune out the barking dogs and the pounding music at bedtime. It's become the equivalent of white noise. But the wind. Oh, the wind.

It hurls itself against the sliding windows, making them bang in their aluminum tracks like a drummer with no rhythm. It howls through the cracks, alternately shrieking, screaming like a banshee and growling like some beast from the underworld. It's loud. It's quiet. It's silent.

At least with the dogs, it's the same dogs, same pitch. The music is a constant BOOM-boom-boom BOOM-boom-boom. There's a predictability to the sounds. But the wind is up, down, loud, quiet. It's constantly changing and unpredictable.

I haven't slept well the past two nights because of the wind. It's finally settled down some. Tonight, the only sound I'll have to try to sleep through will be Sr B's snoring.

  2. Barb,
I can sleep through anything. I once slept through an earthquake. I keep telling Husband if he's tired enough he will sleep. He says that I'm wrong. Either that or he never gets tired enough.

I posted the original comment on the wrong blog post, I was laughing at you being cold. It's not the actual temperature,it's the difference between what you've gotten used to.

When I lived in Las Vegas, we went to the drive-in one evening. It had been some unimaginably hot temperature during the day over 40 maybe even 41(104-106). When the sun fully set the temp dropped to 32 and I started shivering uncontrollably. I would never find 32 cold, but the 8 point drop hit me hard.

    regards,
    Theresa

    1. An earthquake?! I think I would wake up for an earthquake.

I agree, it's the difference between what I'd gotten used to. If we were just arriving to Progreso now, I'd think these temps were wonderful.

I kept waking up last night because I was cold. I already have an extra blanket on my side of the bed. I might have to add another one.

And I'm in long pants and sleeves again tonight...lol.
